How to contact the Police

In an emergency
For example, a serious car accident, a burglary in progress, vandalism in progress or threatening behaviour likely to lead to injury. For an emergency response, dial 999 and ask for police. The operator will decide the level of urgency and dispatch a police reponse. They should also keep in touch with you and log your call in a central register for future reference.

Not an emergency
Not an emergency but requiring a fairly urgent response
For example, to report an empty house that appears to have been broken into.

Use the new non-emergency police number 0845 600 8000 --- put this number in to your mobile phone

Non-emergency reports For example, an abandoned car, damage to property or defacing by vandalism. 0845 600 8000 and make your report. During business hours you can ask for the inquiry desk at Portaferry and this will put you through to that station where you can speak directly to the duty officer.
