Anyone For Tennis?
We are organising Junior and Senior tennis coaching - suitable for all
ages and abilities - doesn't matter if you haven't played for 20 years
or ever, if you want to take up a very good form of exercise and have
fun at the same time, tennis could be the answer!
Senior Tennis- Saturdays at 2 - 4 pm
Initially we have booked Eric Boal for 2 Saturdays - (25 Aug and 01 Sep).
So even if you haven't played for years and even if you can't find your
racquet, come on down as there will be a few spare racquets! There will
be a charge of £10 per person to cover costs with any surplus going
towards our tennis fund. After the first 2 weeks we plan to arrange a
10-week course on Saturdays. These will be informal, relaxed events
with no pressure to perform, and an excellent opportunity to meet
others who are interested in playing tennis. Eric's teaching methods
ensure that everyone will enjoy themselves no matter what their tennis
is like!
These sessions will be a first step towards establishing a tennis club
in Cloughey. First we need to see how many people might be interested
as it is important that we can demonstrate a demand for better tennis
facilities. Your support will enable us to convince the Council to
renovate the existing courts and provide a windbreak hopefully later
this year. Please complete and return our questionaire which you can
download in Word format by clicking here. Return the completed forms to
the letterbox on the gate at the Pavilion.
If you are interested in playing now or in the future, please fill in our tennis form
OR ring Alistair Dunn 4277 1080 OR email ha.dunn@btinternet.com OR call
at Cloughey Pavilion (10 - 7 Mon-Sat) to collect a form.

Support our campaign for better tennis facilities for Cloughey
Cloughey is a holiday village with excellent facilities for golf and
bowls. However, the tennis facilities are very poor and there is very
little organised sport for young people in the village.
We are campaigning for improvements to the tennis courts at Cloughey to provide:
* Modern all-weather tennis courts with floodlighting
* A proper booking system for use of courts
* Tennis coaching courses for juniors and seniors
* Formation of a tennis club with competitions
Cloughey tennis courts are owned and managed by Ards Borough Council
and situated beside the Pavilion and bowling green. The Council has
been considering upgrading the courts but is unsure how much demand
there is for tennis in Cloughey.
At present the courts are in poor condition and there is no booking
system. In addition, they are not secured at night and have been
subject to occasional vandalism. The uneven surface makes it difficult
to play good tennis.
We believe that there are many people in Cloughey of all ages who would
play tennis if the facilities were better. There is an opportunity to
persuade the Council to provide modern all-weather "astro-turf" courts
in a secure compound with a proper booking system to enable users to
book courts in advance. There are similar facilities in Comber and
Donaghadee where the tennis clubs can use the courts which are also
open to the public.
Improved courts would allow us to organise regular coaching courses for
juniors and summer coaching courses for visitors in peak holiday
periods.
