This scheme was funded by the EU Peace II initiative through Ards Borough Council.
The CDCA Committee submitted a plan for a line of trees along Main Road in Cloughey with plaques containing the names of all the children currently living in the district. Following protracted discussions with Roads Service and consultation with the adjoining residents the trees were eventually planted in the grass verge in the autumn of 2005. The names of all the children have been collected and the plaques ordered. These were installed at the end of May 2006.
Meanwhile the trees have come in to leaf and are looking well. They are Whitebeams (Scientific name - Sorbus Aria) a variety chosen by the landscape consultants for tolerance to coastal conditions.
We hope that the children named on the plaques will be able to bring their own children to see "their" tree which will also be grown up to maturity.
In Autumn 2006, we arranged a bulb-planting day involving many of the families of the children named on the plaques. The spring bulbs were planted at the foot of all the trees and additional mulching applied.
Update July 2007
Some of the trees are not thriving in the dry ground and we had them inspected by experts who consider that they should settle in and improve as their roots become extablished.

CDCA intends to promote further improvements to the landscaping of the Main Road and Warren area to improve the appearance of the centre of the village.
