Keeping our beach clean - first beach cleam of 2011
On Saturday 16th April over 40 bags of rubbish were removed from Cloughey Beach by a dedicated group of local residents. The clean-up was organised by the CDCA who have given a high priority to keeping our beach litter-free over the past 3 years. The result of this initiative has been several awards from environmental bodies and Tidy Northern Ireland. The aim of the CDCA is to achieve Cloughey's reputation for having one of the cleanest beaches in Northern Ireland. All of the cleaning is done by volunteers though the Council arranges to remove the bagged rubbish that is gathered off the beach for collection.
To successfully keep the beach clean, periodic mass clean-ups are not enough and there are several dedicated residents who pick up litter from the beach on a regular basis. If you walk on the beach or warren regularly and would like to help us keep the beach clean we can supply you with a litter picker, suitable gloves and black bags - we can also allocate a small area of the beach for you to clean. Contact info@cloughey.org.uk for more details on how you can make a practical contribution to creating a clean beach.
