CDCA Beach Care Group - Keeping our beautiful beach clean
This informal group of volunteers work together and individually to keep the beach and warren clear of litter. Much of the litter is washed up as flotsam and jetsam from the sea, but there is also quite a lot of 'normal' litter left behind by visitors especially in the good summer weather. Regular 'litter picking' sessions are organised in the Spring and Summer, but members of this group also work all year round keeping different parts of the beach free of litter. New volunteers are always welcome and we will supply you with litter pickers and gloves. Contact group organisers Howard Gregory on 07912388943

The children from Kirkistown Primary School turned out in force to clean Cloughey
Beach and the Warren.
On Friday 12th April all the staff and pupils accompanied by some parents turned out on a windy day to do battle
with the rubbish on the beach . They engaged the task with enthusiam and gusto and as the attached photograph
shows they had great success. Apart from the many bags of litter they collected 5 tyres, 2 full oil drums, and quite a
large piece of fishing net. The community should be proud of the effort made by all involved.
As it turned out the next day was to be the first beach clean by the Beach Care Group but due to even stronger winds this had to be cancelled, replaced by refreshments in the Pavilion and partaking of Sheilagh's great homebaking. A new date will be announced in due course to carry out the cancelled beach clean.
